STEFAN ROBERTS – Undivided Attention – 18 Aug-11 Sept, 2026
Just as seeing is more than the physical act of looking, the photographs in Undivided Attention invite a different way of perceiving the world, where views are interconnected and elements are linked. As one space merges into another, new relationships and observations emerge. These works offer an alternative reading of familiar places. They are not orderly, truncated views; They resist the conventions of what is included or excluded by the frame. The photographic medium itself remains visible; its presence is not concealed. The film reminds us that the same light that touched the surfaces of these places also touched the surface of the emulsion, creating a connection in time. This light passed through a tiny pinhole opening and was projected within a hand-made camera. When the camera is loaded with multiple strips of film, we need to look beyond the apparent boundary to see the greater picture. In doing so, we become aware that there is always more to perceive.
