These Tribute paintings draw their inspiration from Tukutuku patterns, particularly the Poutama (Stairway to Heaven) design. These works here are named after the first Māori to embrace Christianity. They were involved in the bringing together of Māori and Pākehā that occurred through the gospel in the early 1800’s. Some were important signatories of the Treaty of Waitangi.
