Charrette van Eekelen’s works with textiles and embroidery, and as such brings a distinct and welcome approach to painting, combining painted fabrics with freehand embroider. Her stitches serve multiple roles resembling pencil marks, and allow her to guide the viewer’s eye to particular elements, creating depth through shadow and light. Incorporating personal and universal imagery, van Eekelen works alongside her materials, intuitively allowing them to guide and shape the final outcomes, reimagining and reconstructing them in the final process.
